The Central Brooklyn Jazz Festival kicked off the 12th year of its annual event this past weekend. Brooklyn was a mainstay for legendary jazz musicians back in the day. Many prominent artists lived in the Bedford Stuyvesant area, which was the little “Harlem of Brooklyn” during the period of the Harlem Renaissance. Brooklyn continues to be a breeding ground for talented musicians, and this year’s festivities–spread throughout the month of May and into April–will showcase many of these new, and old, local talents.
