Drummer extraordinaire Chris ‘Daddy’ Dave has become a staple on The Revivalist for his Tony Allen meets J Dilla sound. Always pushing the sounds of soul, hip-hop, and jazz, Dave recently teamed up with emcee/DJ Stimulus for a collaborative mixtape 3rd 1st Impression, which is out now as a free download. The mixtape is produced entirely by Chris Dave and features Stimulus on the mic, Chris Dave on drums, and features from Bilal, Renee Neufville, Stokley (of Mint Condition) and Casey Benjamin. Although certainly not jazz, the project has echoes of Roy Hargrove’s Hard Groove and RCDC Experiment (no surprise there as Chris is the drummer in that group). Stream the whole mix or download your favorite tracks! We personally love “Bad Habitz,” a Maxwell remake, and “Full Grown” featuring the soul phenom Bilal.

This is kind of nit-picky I know, but you definitely mean “Tony Williams meets J-Dilla.” Tony Allen is a drummer, but not the one you’re thinking of.
P.S. I do love this website – I don’t mean to give off the wrong impression. Keep up the good work!
