Get ready for the sixth installment of New York’s Jazz and Electronic House monthly series Church, a very special night with world-renowned DJ, producer, remixer, composer, musician, and Tru Thoughts recording artist Mark de Clive-Lowe (MdCL). The last edition with Jose James and DJ Spinna was a success with a packed room of people dancing. On May 4th, MdCL will be joined by resident vocalist Nia Andrews, Jamire Williams (ERIMAJ/Christian Scott) on Drums, and Mark Kelley (The Roots) on bass. This edition of CHURCH includes also a special guest performance by DJ Rich Medina and surprise Guests.
Presented by Giant Step + Revive Music
Mark de Clive-Lowe continues to build on the success of his new CHURCH monthly series in New York at DROM. CHURCH is a whirlwind mix of live jazz, sampling and a DJ set. Fast becoming the discerning music-lovers’ and musicians’ event of choice, don’t be surprised if you spot the likes of Masters at Work’s Louie Vega or soul legend Leon Ware in the audience; Chris “Daddy” Dave, MC John Robinson or Miguel Atwood-Ferguson on the stage and the likes of Ge-ology on the decks. The first live set showcases the jazz side of MdCL, blending standards, groove explorations and classic trio interplay with resampling, electronics and live remixing. As the first set draws to a close, the guest DJ takes over the soundtrack while the tables and chairs are cleared away ready for MdCL to flip the script with the second set—a unique blend of live electronica and live remixing—the jazz club colliding head to head with the dance floor.
An accomplished producer, DJ and poet on the worldwide underground music scene, Philadelphia’s Rich Medina connects the dots between hip hop, jazz, house, spoken word, Afrobeat and bass heavy future soul.
